Pambling Roads~~Alabama

May 25, 2018

Welcome!

Our travels have brought us all around the "lower 48". We've tried to zip zag and circle through and around every state we could. Florida was where this endeavor started. Enjoy your journal.

Thank you for taking this wonderful journey with us. It has been absolutely incredible. Please keep in mind that some museums don’t allow photography.

Alabama

The Pioneer Museum of Alabama in Troy

Spend the afternoon and walk through time. You’ll be thrilled to see several artifacts from ancient times to present day. The main building alone has a huge display of museum pieces and history. The buildings and displays outside include a steam locomotive, smoke house, log church, covered bridge, schoolhouse, grist mill and much more.

Mobile

USS Alabama Battleship Park

Alas, none of the pictures came out from the Mobile trip. (Hanging my head in embarrassment.)

The park’s dedicated to all Alabama residents who served our country in all branches of the armed forces. Battleships, submarines, an aircraft pavilion, tanks, and artillery are a history lover’s dream. There are multiple exhibits and displays available for everyone’s viewing pleasure.

Savannah

This was a return visit for us. We decided to do a bit more touring.

There’s supposed to be a hotel in Savannah that’s haunted, perhaps we’ll stay there next.

We decided to do something a bit different and used the Oglethorpe Trolley Tours. This tour is a continuous tour that was very informative and enlightening. They don’t have drop-off or pick-up areas like the Old Town Trolley Tours.

Please keep in mind there’s so much to see in Savannah and the three days that we spent in town doesn’t cover everything that can be seen or experienced. Savannah and most parts of Georgia are the epitome of southern hospitality. I must say, everyone we met there and throughout the state were polite and gracious.

Pambling Roads−My Florida Journal

Key West

Our dream to travel when my husband retired started with our first goal, Key West.

Normally we take the back roads when we travel, wanting to see “America”, wanting to meet the Americans. We don’t want to see a continuous line of highways with endless trees and concrete. However, rare for us, the trip to Key West was mostly highway.

Travel miles for me is about four to five hours, anything more than that and my brain doesn’t work properly, my body starts to ache, and I’m utterly useless. (And cranky as my husband’s saying to himself as he reads this.) Our layovers tend to be more relaxing and neither one of us have overextended ourselves, nor do we end up with travel pains.

Living on the Central Florida Coast...
